Born in 1967 in Pazar/Rize, Mahmut Asmalı completed his primary, secondary, and high school education in Istanbul, and his university studies in the Civil Engineering Department of Karadeniz Technical University in 1989. He began his career as a Site Manager, and he took office as Assistant General Manager in the private sector after putting his signature under many successful projects between the years 1989 and 1998.
In 1998, he left the company where he was working and incorporated Akyapı İnşaat with his engineer friend. The company has realized projects in any field of the construction sector from factories to qualified houses and villas, from industrial sites to shopping malls, and from hospitals to schools for 23 years. The company continues its activities with its new projects.
Moreover, apart from the construction sector, it has automotive and tourism companies and foreign trade companies carrying out business in the chemicals industry at home. Abroad, it continues its PVC production in Doha/Qatar and its construction activities in Frankfurt/Germany.
For his successful works, Asmalı was awarded the "Entrepreneur of the Year" award by the Turkish Entrepreneurship and Business Ethics Association (İGİAD) in 2009.
Taking an active role in the non-governmental organizations, Asmalı is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Entrepreneur Businessmen Foundation (GİV), Turkish Entrepreneurship and Business Ethics Association (İGİAD), and Istanbul Chamber of Civil Engineers (İMO). He also carries out social responsibility works as the Deputy Chairperson of the Board of Directors of AKYUVA Foundation that carries on studies aimed at orphans and disadvantaged families.
Mahmut Asmalı has been a member of the MÜSİAD (Independent Industrialists and Businessmen's Association) family and has served in many different positions for many years. Asmalı took office in MÜSİAD as the President of the Construction Sector Board in 2009-2011, Board Member of MÜSİAD in 2013-2017, Deputy Chairperson of MÜSAİD in 2017 – 2019, and President of the Good Loan Fund of MÜSİAD in 2019 – 2021. Asmalı has been elected the Chairperson of MÜSİAD at the 26th Ordinary General Assembly Meeting of MÜSİAD held in September 2021.
Mahmut Asmalı is married to 5 children.
