2016 ECONOMIC GROWTH ASSESSMENT
DEİK President Ömer Cihad Vardan made a statement regarding Turkish Economy's 2016 growth figures that were announced by TÜİK. He expressed that it is positive to see that economy has grown above expectations in the last quarter.
"In 2016, despite negative effects of shrinkage of global economy, failed coup attempt and terror attacks on the Turkish economy; Turkey was able to maintain GDP per capita in 11,000 USD level and to grow GDP with a rate of 2.9%. This is a positive development. Not many countries would be able to continue to grow under these conditions. Thankfully, our country succeeded to grow. Without any doubt, monetary and fiscal actions taken by economic administration enabled growth in the economy. Economic accelerators which are the domestic demand and the private consumption growth in the last quarter as well as investment growth are very significant to us.
These figures are pleasing yet they are still below Turkey's 2023-2052-2071 targets. We are sure that in a year where our citizen will make a decision on the new Presidential system and where uncertainty will disappear in our geography, we will see stronger and higher growth figures."
