Şerafettin Aras was born in 1962 in Eleşkirt, Ağrı. He completed his primary, secondary, and high school education in Mersin. Between 1979 and 1994, he worked in various positions in different logistics companies. Founded in 1994, Mr Aras is the founding partner and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hilal Trans A.Ş. He is also the partner of GAT Logistics A.Ş., founded in 2002, and has been the Chairman of the Board of Directors since 2018.

Apart from business life, Şerafettin Aras is actively involved in sectoral non-governmental organizations.

He served as the Chairman of MUSIAD Logistics Sector Board in 2010-2012, 19th Term in 2013-2018, and 20th Term ITO Assembly Member in 2018-2022.

Elected in 2001 as a member of the UND Board of Directors, Şerafettin Aras served as the Vice Chairman of the UND Board of Directors between 2011-2013 and as the Second Chairman of the UND Board of Directors between 2013-2023.

Şerafettin Aras was appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors of UND on 11 October 2023.

Aras is married and has 3 children.
