With the "Africa Opening Action Plan" initiated in 1998 and Türkiye gaining the status of "Strategic Partner" with the African Union in 2008, relations with the continent began to become more institutionalized. These developments in both political and economic dimensions have also necessitated initiatives in the field of commercial diplomacy.

In this context, within the structure of the Foreign Economic Relations Board of Türkiye (DEİK), 48 Bilateral Business Councils have been established between Türkiye and African countries to shed light on existing and potential opportunities in the fields of investment and trade. The DEİK/Türkiye-Africa Business Councils, through their 54 counterpart organizations and member companies, play a significant role in strengthening Türkiye-Africa relations by carrying out commercial diplomacy activities.

Türkiye-Africa Business and Economic Forum (TABEF) is held biennially in İstanbul, hosted by the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Türkiye and the African Union, and organized by DEİK. Based on the “win-win” principle, TABEF provides a platform for dialogue among political decision-makers from Türkiye and African countries, and brings together businesspeople and civil society actors. Hosting effective initiatives that build economic partnerships, TABEF contributes to the increase in Türkiye-Africa trade volume.
