The DEİK/Türkiye-Slovenia Business Council was established in 1997 with the purpose of providing the business communities of both countries with a suitable platform to promote their activities. The Establishment Agreement was signed on 4 April 1997 in Ljubljana on the occasion of a state visit by the then Chairman of the Republic of Türkiye, Süleyman Demirel, to the Balkan country. The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia acts as Counterpart Organisation of the partnership which has proved very fruitful.

Despite its rather small size, certain features make the country an important trading partner: it was a very prosperous region of the former Yugoslavia, it has a developed industrial base and transport infrastructure, its communication services are of a high standard, its labour force is well-trained and it is located at Central Europe’s access point to the sea.

Slovenian companies also still have strong business ties with the markets of the former Yugoslavia. This range of influence far exceeds the limits of the country’s borders and offers significant opportunities for the Turkish business community. In its activities, the Council regularly addresses this issue in order to encourage stronger involvement of Turkish companies in Slovenia.
